‘The Brown Derby’ takes its name from a chain of diners started in the 1920’s in LA, which were popular with the Hollywood stars of yesteryear.
Although not an exact replica in terms of grandeur and opulence, this bar is more akin to the 1990’s film ‘Swingers’. The current owner, ran the Goodluck bar in LA, which was a stones throw away from ‘The Brown Derby’. This is where the end dance scene in Swingers was shot, aswell as the infamous Dresdon rooms, home of piano act combo Marty and Elaine.
Its that scene and essence that is captured here at The Brown Derby as the remaining Los Feliz branch, finally closing its doors in 2009 due to developers moving in; an all too common problem.
